Finance Manager

 What is your role at Eduserv?

I look after the finance team, who handle all sales and purchase invoices, staff expenses, payroll – in short, making sure we get money in on time and pay out on time. We ensure that surplus cash generated by the business is used effectively. My team also manages the accounts and deals with internal reporting requirements.

 How long have you worked here?

I’ve been at Eduserv for five years, and I’ve worked in finance since leaving school.

 What do you enjoy most about your job?

I’ve gained a lot of knowledge and experience during my career here. You get such a wide variety of tasks that the job is always challenging, but you also get a great deal of support. My work touches on all the departments within Eduserv, and I always find that if I need information about any aspect of the business, people are always willing to help.

 How would you describe the culture at Eduserv?

There is a very understanding and friendly environment - it seems as though the Chief Executive knows everyone by name!

Eduserv has also been really supportive of my studies, funding my professional development in management accounts.

It’s a growing organisation with a changing culture. Eduserv’s background involved three different services merging together, and now we’re building on being one organisation. It’s a great place to be in if you want a career path.

Today I’m looking at a customer query (I normally pick up customer queries that staff pass on or ask advice about). I am working on the cash forecast for the next three months, and reviewing the renewal on a licence that has a very complex pricing structure. I’m preparing quarterly accounts and will do a VAT return later – quite a typical day!
